A “new indigenous product”, it was with these words that Kulikyrda Mehinako described the Kaupüna swing.

Its design rises from the desire to enhance the buriti yarn, made by women who wrap themselves around their thighs, with quick movements, very thin strips of straw that they manage to take after taking a boat down the river to collect material and then put it to dry.

Completely executed in the Kaupüna Village, of the Mehinako ethnicity, located in the Xingu Indigenous Reserve, a piece was born that unites the design of a designer from São Paulo who is passionate about Brazilian handicrafts and the indigenous handicraft tradition.

The artisanal work of women, who harvest, clean and prepare the buriti straw to make the thread with which they weave their traditional nets, is found for the first time, and of men, who enter the forest to find trees from which to take the wood. to create zoomorphic benches adorned with charcoal and annatto-based graphics.

It was the first time in Kaupüna village that men and women work together to create a single piece. Infinite emotion, immeasurable value!

Um “novo produto indígena”, foi com essas palavras que Kulikyrda Mehinako descreveu o Balanço Kaupüna.

Seu desenho surgiu da vontade de valorizar o fio de buriti, feito pelas mulheres que enrolam na própria coxa, com movimentos rápidos, tirinhas bem finas de palha que elas conseguem após seguirem de barco pelo rio para coletar material e depois coloca-lo para secar.

Totalmente executado na Aldeia Kaupüna, da etnia Mehinako, localizada na Reserva Indígena do Xingu, nasce uma peça que une o desenho de uma designer paulista apaixonada pelo artesanato brasileiro à tradição artesanal indígena.

Nele se encontram pela primeira vez o trabalho artesanal das mulheres, que colhem, limpam e preparam a palha de buriti para fazer o fio com o qual tecem suas tradicionais redes, e dos homens, que adentram a floresta para encontrar árvores de onde tiram a madeira para criar bancos zoomorfos enfeitados com grafismos pintados a base de carvão e urucum.

Foi a primeira vez na aldeia Kaupüna que homens e mulheres trabalham juntos para criar uma única peça. Emoção infinita, valor imensurável!
