Inspired by the music and dance genre that was born in Pará and that mixes Portuguese and African elements, Maria Fernanda presents in the Carimbó series, pieces that mix techniques from three different regions and that have already been present in her professional journey, in previous collections.

In this line, the designer pays homage to these activities through new readings, merging what she learned and experienced during her immersions in Brazil.

“There are so many artisans around the country, why not add them up? Exchanging information, telling stories, sharing knowledge, understanding that we are all the same, regardless of color, gender or belief is essential for cultural enrichment and for society itself.”

Naturally dyed straw have unique characteristics that never repeat. Due to this process the colors fade more easily than the industrial one, this is not considered a defect, it’s a way for it to tell its own story. At the time of ordering you should check what options are available.

The dyeing of the straws is done by artisans of Urucureá riverside community. To do the tricot with copper wire Maria Fernanda invited architect and stylist Susana Fernandez, who that develops incredible clothes with hand made works.

Colors mix, new designs are formed, movement rhythmic, everything is light and free, and emanates an energy of those who lives the moment in full. I watch and learn, immersed in a life that is real, contagious.

Hands guide the skirts, bodies rotate, and I stay there, absorbed. Everything is connected, like invisible extensions that reverberate far away. I'm at the Carimbó dancing wheel. I'm also under the hose by the river. Hands twist the straw in the same cadence, produce sounds, spin fast, generate smiles, vibrate joy, They repeat the lightness and freedom of the dance.

There are so many stories and lives connected through small points, coincidences, chance, encounters. I also contribute, uniting ancestral and current knowledge, reinventing tradition.

The braid, the knitting, the clay molded by hands. The straw, the copper. My dreams.

Distant lives connect and know each other, they are now one single movement that keeps turning, reminding us that at every turn destiny changes, but our good emotions must always be maintained.

A trança, o tricô, o barro moldado pelas mãos. A palha, o cobre. Meus sonhos.
