Alma-Raiz and Pará's braided tucumã straw

Freedom and lightness are two constants in my life that I won’t give up.
Maturing is not simple, but reaching 50 has many positive points and I
believe this is one of them.

    Huni Kuin arts and crafts

Weaving is something I love, so you can imagine how stunned I was to
witness the traditional Huni Kuin handloom in the very heart of the
    Amazon Rainforest.

    Journey - Alter do Chão

In a mix of vacations with work, when I went to meet Urucureá, in July, I chose to stay in Alter do Chão, which is approximately two hours by boat from there. I'm in love with
trips and I like to stay in more cozy places, where we are seen as people and not just guests, you know?

    Pure charm!
Her work goes beyond the yo-yo, it's yo-yo as a particle, it's art and soul.

Everyone who knows him always describes him as a totally pattern-free person, out of the box, surprising, unexpected, and so on, so I decided to look at him in another way and discovered a sweet and...

    Encounters - Clarice Borian

Clarice Borian, a free soul! I think this is one of the best ways to describe
    her.

    Encounters - Marcelo Oséas

Marcelo Oséas, photographer with a sensitive soul, who captures much more than
images with your lenses. His gaze goes further, meets the human being for behind the image, the emotion behind the moment, the truth behind the context.

How can one not be enchanted by the smile and spontaneity of the master craftsman sculptor Expedito Jonas de Jesus? Expedito makes it seem easy to create beautiful sculptures in soapstone without even making a drawing before. For him it is as simple as that: he spends some time staring at the stone until he sees within it what it wants to be, then he uses only his chisel to remove the fragments that don't belong to it and brings out of the stone voluptuous women, cherubs, flowers, lions, elephants and whatever else his sensibility may suggest.

    D. Lilia Fonseca was responsible for rescuing an old tradition that was almost disappearing in the city of Tiradentes (MG), the act of putting a cross on the houses' doors of the houses to be blessed in the passage of May 3rd, when the Catholic Church recalls and celebrates the day St. Helena found the Holy Cross of Christ.

The table set with cheese breads, cakes and puddings, the aroma of fresh coffee, the sound of cheerful conversation, the skillful hands embroidering colored designs on the white fabrics, this was how I met D. Maria Conceição de Paula, an artisan who coordinates, with her sweet speech, a group of women embroiderers - the Artistas do Bairro, in Tiradentes, Minas Gerais.

    Waguinho and the Brass

Waguinho, Wagner Trindade's son, is one of the most intense people I've ever met. Intense in a good way, his anxiety comes from the will to learn and seize everything that is possible. It was so during the immersions of the 1st Creative Week of Tiradentes in 2017, when I met him, and it will be like this forever, I think. Every time I meet him he is waiting for me full of ideas and pieces to show, to exchange, to share.

Tiradentes is a city that keeps part of the Brazilian history, walking through its streets of stones is like slide through the pages of a beautiful book, especially at dawn when the cars have not yet entered the center and we find ourselves practically alone surrounded by the São José hill and a breathtaking architectural set, registered by SPHAN (Service of National Historical and Artistic Heritage).

    Deuzani, poems from Jequitinhonha's Valley

Deuzani and I are going to New York!

We couldn’t imagine that this will happen when we first met. Who would have thought that tight embrace would be the beginning of an incredible partnership and a friendship for life.

    The Art of Carving

Rondinelly Santos, (photo by João Bertholini), better known as Nelinho, transforms the wood into art through his hands. Using gouges and chisels creates scrolls, vines of acanthus leaves and flower wreaths with an ease that make us lose our breath. I had the opportunity to meet him during the immersions of the FIRST CREATIVE WEEK OF TIRADENTES (Minas Gerais, 2017), and I could not let him go anymore!

Over the past few years I have realized that the more we find meaning in the we do, the more we find wonderful people along the way who share with us the same dreams and ideals.

Now that I have told you what I consider to be a house with soul and I showed you some of my projects where I take this very seriously, I decided to tell you a little about places where I try to connect with nature to recharge my energy, places that are not sources of inspiration for Yankatu’s collections but are sources of inspiration for my life. I thought it would be worth sharing with you!

    Design, art, crafts and emotion

I wanted to show you one more house with a lot of soul, where the most important was that the decoration made sense to the residents and every detail had a story to tell. It was a very nice project to do at the time with my dear friend and architect Ariane Quaglia Cristiano.

One of the things I like about my job is that to do it, you need to have empathy, either with the client or with the artisan (and in my case with the suppliers too!). This type of relationship makes you create bonds of trust and friendship that I take with me for life, as you can notice by the Russian doll and the old trunk that appears in the previous post.

    Gabi's enchanted attic

One project that I am still passionate about was an attic that ended up turning into a subject at Casa Claudia in December 2006 by the hands of dear Mayra Navarro, "the enchanted attic of Gabi." The client wanted to bring some of her hometown to the house where she lived in Sao Paulo without spending much. The space once occupied by a boiler and a water tank gave way to a hall where Gabi, daughter of the couple, played and where the family hosted the visitors.

    Home with soul
    Home with soul

Today I realize that the importance of the soul, of this transparency and this will to be who we really are, has always been a constant in my work and in my life.
